Herbicides and Fertilizers

Single Bag
Trophy Grower Max 10-52-4, 25 lb. bag-$50 ($38 when ordering greater than 20 bags. For more than 60 bags call for pricing)

Trophy Grower Max fertilizer is the easiest, most efficient, and most economical choice for fertilizing fish ponds. Due to the fertilizer's higher phosphorus content and high solubility it requires the application of only 8 lbs/acre in the spring followed by only 4 lbs/acre once the "bloom" is established. It can simply be cast into the pond since it dissolves in the water with no dilution required as with liquid. Also no more lugging 60 lb buckets to the boat or shore it can now be done at 1/3 the weight. The water soluble is nearly impossible to misapply. It also has an agent added to prevent caking meaning it can be stored for longer periods.

Prior fertilizer formulations including both granular and liquid are more labor intensive, and are denser than water. This products can sink to bottom where most beneficial nutrients are wasted. In cost comparisons the liquid price is slightly higher than the more efficient water soluble formulation. This product has a higher phosphorus content that the highly advertised Perfect Pond Plus.

Remember to maximize fish production a proper fertilization program should maintain an 18 to 24 inch visibility from March through October. This fertilizer makes this chore much easier. Also contact us to obtain a cost for putting you on our fertilizer route. Let the pros at Aquatic Environmental make sure you are maximizing the pond's potential.  See shipping restrictions.

Bag with 4 packets
Case price (16 packets)

Oasis Pond Colorant- Bag with 4 packets (equivalent to one gallon) is $45 case price (16 packets) $150
Oasis is best applied when the lake is muddy or not aesthetically pleasing. It is blue in color but will mix with off color water to form a nice "natural green" color when properly applied. Apply at a rate of 2 packets per 6/acre feet. It will spread throughout the entire lake in about 12 hours depending on water and wind currents. Re-apply until desired color is achieved. It works well to deter submersed weed and algae growth by blocking sunlight. This will also block beneficial phytoplankton, so if maximum fish production is your goal limit its use. Since it is in a water soluble pack it saves shipping cost. Also much easier to you but we still suggest wearing gloves when tossing out the packets. See shipping restrictions.

Cutrine: granular algaecide, 30 lb bag - $75
This is a chelated copper based algaecide that is best for bottom growing algae. For muskgrass Chara spp., apply early in the season when it first starts to appear. It is also good for filamentous algae as it starts to grow from the bottom. Once algae are growing on the surface K-tea is a better choice. The infested areas can be spot treated at a rate of 1 lb/720 sqft. Since copper levels are toxic to fish do not make more than three applications over a one month period. Do not apply in waters containing trout. See shipping restrictions.

K-tea: liquid algaecide, 2.5 gallon container- $80
This is a liquid based 8% chelated copper product that works great for planktonic, filamentous, and bluegreen algae blooms. K-tea can be applied in golf, ornamental, irrigation and fish ponds. There are no restrictions for irrigation or watering immediately after use. The best way to apply is to spot treat surface filamentous algae or lightly spray over surface for thick "blooms". Mix in sprayer at a rate of 3-6 ozs/gallon of water. Hit clumps of algae with a good mist of the spray. With this method the container will go a long way in control of unsightly algae mats. Contact us for further recommendations. See shipping restrictions.

Komeen - 2.5 gallon $80
Komeen is similar to Ktea but instead of single-chelate it is a copper-ethylenediamine complex herbicide. We use this product along with others to treat submersed plant growth. We mix it in at a rate of 2% solution or 3 ozs/gal of water. This combination works well on plants such as pondweeds, but really aids in more difficult plants such as elodea, water milfoil and hydrilla.  See shipping restrictions.

Cygnet Plus 2.5 gallon $75
This product in general terms is know as adjuvant, spreader sticker, wetting agent, penetrant, etc. It is used along with algaecides and herbicides to increase effectiveness. Cygnet plus is a 100% active nonionic penetrant which is made from natural limonene taken from the bark of pine trees. It will when added to herbicides enhance activity, reduce surface tension for better wetting and cause the herbicide to stick better to target plants. It helps to breakdown the waxy cuticle on leafs. In short it has provided us with much better effectiveness than herbicides alone when treating our aquatic weeds. In herbicide mix add at a rate of 1 ozs/gal of water. So you can see this 2.5 gallon product will go a long way. See shipping restrictions.

Reward: contact herbicide, 2.5 gallon container- $335
This is the easiest solution for most submersed weeds. Reward is applicable for most submersed, emergent and floating aquatic grasses. Many ways to calculate application rates. For smaller problems mix spray at a rate of 3-6 ozs/gallon of water. Apply directly to plant and area of concern by surface or subsurface spraying. It is EPD approved for aquatic use, but irrigation should not occur for 5 days after treatment. Feel free to contact us for further advice or to schedule a professional herbicide application. Effectiveness is improved with use of good surfactant. Proper identification of aquatic plant is recommended prior to application. See shipping restrictions.

Touchdown PRO - 2.5 gallon container - $125
This is a state of the art glyphosate-based formulation containing 3 pounds per gallon glyphosate acid in the form of its diammonium salt (DA). It is a patented formulation, broad spectrum, systemic high performance, non-selective herbicide. It has built-in-wetter formulation and contains ingredients that serve to aid in neutralizing ions that can reduce overall herbicidal action. It is registered for use in non-crop areas including aquatic sites, roadsides, railroads, rights-of-way, industrial sites, golf courses, and commercial application on residential sites. It controls more than 170 annual and perennial weeds, including vines and woody brush. For aquatic use it is the best thing going to treat emergent plants such as cattails or rushes. See shipping restrictions.

Navigate: granular 2,4-D, 50 lb bag- $185
This granular product is best for isolated islands of water lilies, coontail or parrot's feather. Apply directly over problematic area at a rate of 5 lbs/1000 sqft. Additional applications may be necessary to completely rid of target species. See shipping restrictions.

Secchi Disc- $20
Technically it is the international standard for measuring phytoplankton abundance in the absence of turbidity. Simply stated it tells you when to fertilize. A good fertilization program requires precise applications based on current visibilities. A good measurement is important to maintain consistent blooms and determine proper fertilizer applications. Normally the desired range is 18-24 inches.

We had these made because I was tired of paying over $30-$45 each for disc from other aquatic resources. These are made of thick PVC and painted. They have an eye bolt holding the disc and a rope for measuring visibility up to three feet. You can add longer rope if you desire. See shipping restrictions.
