This role is ideal for early-career professionals who enjoy hands-on fieldwork, value accuracy and learning and want to apply fisheries science in real-world environments. As a Fisheries Technician (Electrofishing), you will play a critical role in assessing private lakes and ponds using electrofishing surveys and biological data collection. You’ll work outdoors, operate specialized equipment, and communicate findings clearly—helping clients understand their fisheries and make informed management decisions. Our technicians are trusted professionals in the field. The ideal candidate takes pride in technical excellence, follows procedures carefully and understands that clear communication and professionalism matter just as much as scientific skill.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct electrofishing surveys and fisheries assessments using company equipment
- Collect, record, and analyze biological data to support fisheries management recommendations
- Accurately identify freshwater fish species common to Georgia and the Southeast
- Prepare clear, professional written reports for clients and internal teams
- Communicate assessment findings and recommended next steps in a client-facing manner
- Safely operate and maintain boats, electrofishing equipment, trucks, and trailers
- Support fish stocking, fish transport, habitat enhancement, aeration, and fountain projects
- Maintain accurate service notes, records, and opportunities within company CRM systems
- Perform fieldwork in varying weather and environmental conditions
- Travel overnight as needed (approximately 1–2 times per month)
- Assist in other areas as needed, including fish stocking
Who We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Management, Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field
- Strong foundational knowledge of freshwater fish species identification
- Willingness to work outdoors and perform physically demanding fieldwork
- Ability to perform physical duties including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working from boats, uneven terrain, and in and near bodies of water.
- Professional, client-focused communicator who is dependable and comfortable working independently
- Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
- Ability to follow established procedures while managing time effectively in the field
- Valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with electrofishing equipment or fisheries survey methods
- Experience operating boats, trucks and trailers
- Familiarity with CRM systems or field service software (or willingness to learn)
- Experience in a client-facing, consulting or professional services environment
