UglyTree Habitats are spectacular additions to any lake to increase the availability of dense habitat. Each UglyTree contains dense fronds which help to provide crucial cover for young of year fish and mature forage around spawning areas. This cover helps improve survivability and growth of forage fish, drastically improving the energy availability that they carry for sportfish.
With a lack of habitat, few small forage fish will survive to the 3- 4” size when they become a more optimal forage for bass. Sportfish will expend more energy consuming less food, thus hindering their growth.
How do they encourage forage growth?
UglyTree habitats contain over 1 million leaflets which provide ample surface area to hold periphyton, a beneficial collection of microorganisms such as algae, plankton, and bacteria. Many young-of-year fish will rely on these microorganisms as a source of food, and this dense habitat will allow them to grow quickly without constant risk.
